So, there I was, sitting in front of the computer, just starting to get a hang of how WordPress ‘kind of’ works. Faced with an option by WordPress to add my first blog post and publish the site.

Needing to start ‘somewhere’, my science studies nature pointed me to the reality that we always start ‘in the middle’ of things.

That is where I was trained to start as a Science Studies scholar.

So, this would be the first blog post on my journey to hopefully setting up a place where I can share my thoughts, experiences, and concerns for the project that I have, perhaps prematurely, named ANT man. ANT for Actor-Network Theory and man because I lack creativity and time to think up anything else. It could possibly refer to gender, but I’m not so sure. Then I thought ‘Mega Actor Network’, but still no. Let me rather just give it a name so that I can ‘call it something’, which would allow me to share with others. And stop myself from thinking, name, name I need a name…

Later, for sure I will share the ‘in the middle’ concept in relation to Actor-Network Theory hereafter referred to as (ANT) and make visible the elements of why, how, when where and how?

My name is Dean Booysen, I am from Mitchell’s Plain, and this is my journey to ‘save my life’. I have worked in laboratories, universities, and schools. I am trying to find a space where I can help young people learn about computers, software, AI, robotics, coding, electronics and make ‘visible’ the elements out of which the world in and around them is composed.

As I am trying to remember the ANT process. I am reminded that my ‘Reassembling the Social’ book has disappeared. Full of exciting notes to myself, perhaps in anticipation that one day I would have a platform to share the ideas therein. Nevertheless, I have a digital copy and should find it, refresh and continue. Yes, this may seem amateurish – blogging and writing stuff without real context – but maybe that is just part of the journey.

One where I can be understood better.

In this first blog, I want to include some video, audio, and pics of my ‘start dilemma’. Hopefully, that will lead me to the next step as I journey towards finding a way to save my life.
